Because answering the therapeutic needs of people with disabilities means working together.
A dynamic seminar day "Part of the Whole", was devoted to the benefits of a multi-systemic approach to intervention and therapeutic care within therapy rooms, home settings, work spaces, and leisure programs, of people with disabilities receiving therapy. The seminar transported 60 managers and coordinators of SHEKEL's Jerusalem housing, employment and leisure programs, into the intimate setting of a therapy room.
The eye-opening seminar, led by SHEKEL's director of therapeutic services, Michal Kedari, included lectures on a variety of crucial areas, including: "Combining Psychotherapy and System-wide Therapy", "The Other within Myself and within Society", and "Anxiety and Tools to Deal with it", delivered by SHEKEL therapists.
The seminar stressed a multi-systemic approach which utilizes the various frameworks in which the person is involved, to his/her benefit. These include, home settings, employment and leisure/study environments. The idea is that all such frameworks are aware of the person's personal strengths and share relevant information, enabling intervention in the various areas of his/her life. Such an approach also allows the therapist to recommend support and intervention in the person's immediate environment, such as parental or staff guidance.
